Ray Lovelock

Despite having English first and last names Ray Lovelock was born in Rome and has spent his entire life living and working in Italy. His typically un-Italian name comes from the fact that his father was an allied British soldier during World War II who liberated Italy from the fascist regime in 1944. It was while in Italy that he met and fell in love with an Italian lady, and the rest as they say is history…

It was during his teenage years whilst studying at College that Ray started to get interested in the acting world, he would take jobs working as an extra in films and commercials to make extra money and it was while playing in a rock band, with long time friend and genre actor Tomas Milian, at a Roman nightclub that he was first spotted by an acting agent who offered him his first part in a movie.

From 1967 onwards film acting took a forefront, though he would still take a keen interest in his music and he would go on to sing the title tracks to a lot of the films he starred in. Guilio Questi's ‘Django Kill' (aka ‘Se sei vivo spara') (1967) was his first major film but it wasn't until he made ‘Bandits In Milan (aka ‘Banditi di Milano') (1968) for Carlo Lizzani that he really got the acting bug, the film was a big success: “Looking back, that success went to my head, so I ended up being an actor” he says in a recent interview.

Bandits in Milan review
He is still a very successful actor and is currently in a long running TV show, ‘Incantesimo' (‘Magic'), playing the role of surgeon Dr. Hans Rudolf. He is married to Gioai, his wife of over 30 years, who is also his agent. They have a daughter Francesca who is an Assistant Director in Naples. Ray also keeps up his love for soccer and is currently the captain of the 'Italian Actors' soccer team, who play soccer matches raising money for charity.
